美学・芸術学；写真史、映像メディア論、視覚文化論
19世紀から20世紀初頭のフランスを事例として、写真をはじめとする映像技術と身体にまつわる科学的言説との関係について研究してきました。特に近代社会における科学の大衆化のうちで、テクノロジーとしての映像メディアが果たす役割について考察しています。また写真史・写真論から映像メディア・視覚文化、バイオ・メディアアート／デザインに関連する歴史や理論を、感性論や技術論の観点から横断的に研究しています。

Nobuhiro Masuda is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, Japan. He earned his Ph.D. in Literature from Kobe University, Japan, specializing in aesthetics and art theory. His research interests include the historical relationship between visual technologies such as photography and scientific discourses in modernity. He has also extended his research to include visual cultures and biomedia art/design, examining these issues from the perspective of media theory and aesthetics as a study of the senses.
