C Scows are a 1905 design by Johnson Boat Works that have evolved from wood to fiberglass. They were one of the original fleets at LFSC and are still active today.
At 20 feet long and about 650 pounds, the C Scow is light for its size and carries a large sail area (216 square feet), making it fast in all conditions. It sails best when heeled 20–25 degrees, which improves speed and efficiency. Ideal crew weight is around 500 pounds in strong winds, and less in lighter conditions.
The letters on the sail show the fleet (LF for Lake Fenton), and the number is chosen by the skipper.
Mark your calendars for the C Scow Regatta, September 26-27, 2026. Check the "Regattas" tab for more information.
