What Are Blue Zones?
Blue Zones refer to regions of the world where people live longer and enjoy better quality of life, identified by Dan Buettner and his team. This study has not been without controversy. These zones include Okinawa in Japan, Sardinia in Italy, Ikaria in Greece, and Nicoya in Costa Rica. The initial inclusion of Loma Linda in California as a Blue Zone may have been a mistake. Recent lifestyle changes in Okinawa and Nicoya are negatively impacting these communities. Terra de Celanova in Ourense, Spain, meets the criteria to be considered a Blue Zone.
