Hii, I'm Sandra Beriain

I obtained my degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of the Basque Country (EHU), followed by a Master’s degree in Neuroscience at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. I then completed a cotutelle PhD between EHU and the University of Bordeaux (2021-2024) under the supervision of Prof. Elena Vecino and Dr. Giovanni Marsicano, where I studied the role of the endocannabinoid system in the retina. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher investigating the role of habenular astrocytes in maternal behavior.

Outside of research, I think that if I hadn’t studied biochemistry, I might have pursued a career in pharmacy or physiotherapy. I also enjoy imagining one day opening a breakfast café filled with fruit and plants.
