PROMPT: What does a culturally-responsive FSL classroom look like to you?
NOTE: You can draw a literal classroom, or abstract the essence/symbolism of a CR FSL classroom, or zoom in on one essential aspect of the CR classroom we discussed today.
Title : Bienvenue chez nous
Description : The world is so big and so diverse. Everyone has knowledge to share. The flowers represent the different languages learned and how they grow in the brain. We can learn from each other and enrich our language and cultural skills.
Title : La roue d'apprentissage
Description : Learning is continuous. We learn to fly. Everyone contributes to diversity.
Title : A culturally responsive classroom
Description : This picture shows how in a CR classroom everyone is equal, even the teacher is indistinguishable from the students in this circle. All the countries are highlighted to show how all students and cultures are included. Importantly, we see more than just grammar in the classroom. Students see themselves.
Title : La complexité de l'apprentissage de FSL se cache dans les détails les plus minimes
Description : In my vision of a culturally-sensitive FSL pedagogy, my drawing shows small multicolored dots representing the complexity of relationships and mindsets that can exist in the classroom despite observable differences. As a French teacher, I take into account learning styles and expose my students to resources from different French-speaking communities around the world. The fact that the teacher's glasses are not colored is a reminder that no matter where the student and teacher come from, the teacher must have a clear vision of the communities represented in his or her room and keep clear objectives. That's why I emphasize the senses that will enable him to meet all needs.
Title : Nous sommes ensembles - On y va!
Description : A culturally sensitive classroom is one where everyone feels valued and reflected in the class AND everyone can succeed.
