Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
Through my student teaching experience I was able to be involved in many activities that the school offered. It turned out that I knew the activities director at Lincoln-Way West High School. In many cases she had asked me to help with many different types of activities that were going on in the school. During Homecoming week the school had a Pep Assembly where both students and staff participated in. The activities director had asked me if I wanted to dance and be a part of the homecoming assembly. I told her yes! She told me to find a staff member/student leader to dance with me. Above you will find/watch the dance that I was able to participate in.
This standard specifically talks about building collaborative relationships with everyone involved in the school. Giving the opportunity to collaborate with both staff and students to prepare for this specific event that happened during homecoming week. This dance that I took part in allowed me to create and build collaborative relationships with many students and teachers.
Through this event I was able to build relationships. I learned that building one relationship often leads to more relationships with everyone in the school. After this event students and teachers would both talk to me about my performance. Participating in something can often lead to a better school environment as well as stronger relationships amongst staff and students.
This artifact is a reflection on my student teaching experience. It talks about the Charlotte Danielson Framework and how going through student teaching I have been able to collaborate with both a cooperating teacher and a college supervisor who was able to sit in on my classes. This video reflects on my personal experience and collaboration with my supervisor and cooperating teacher and how I was able to learn throughout the semester.
Standard 8 talks about how the teacher is able to develop through relationships built among colleagues, students, and the community. It states, "The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development." I believe that through the experience I was able to connect with standard 8 through the evaluation process and collaboration with my cooperating teacher and my supervisor. Collaboration can help a lot with understanding this standard and help a teacher develop throughout the semester of student teaching. Meeting this standard is important in teaching and my progress throughout has been positive progress. I have been able to collaborate multiple times in multiple curriculums.
I learned a lot through collaboration with my cooperating teacher and my supervisor. I have been able to look back on my classes and thoroughly understand the mistakes that were made. Along with understanding my mistakes I was able to learn how to fix them. I was also able to see the positive things that I was able to do through collaboration. Sometimes it takes someone else to tell you that you have done something right to truly see the thing that you have done right.
