Standard 5 - Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
The artifact below is a sketched up lesson for the physical education classroom. Specifically human performance. This lesson goes through ways that a teacher will have to go through to teach the proper technique of a back squat. Within a classroom like this, it is important that students are safe so making sure this lesson is correct and students will understand the correct way to do a back squat.
Technology in Education has grown substantially over the years and has almost become a norm in the classroom. By using technology you significantly promote "critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning" from Standard 5 in the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards. The critical and creative thinking in My Technology in Education class has provided me with a large variety of methods to present educational material. Two methods that I thought were very effective were Google Forms and WeVideo.
Through this artifact, I was able to learn about the safety that needs to go into a physical education lesson plan and make sure each student is safe when doing their physical activities in the classroom. Making sure the lessons are delivered in a confident manner can ensure safety. Making sure the students know how serious a lesson is important to the safety of the students.
This is a music lesson plan. This lesson is geared towards one song where students are allowed to be creative and try to understand the song/music from their own point of view. This artifact shows the creativity of the teacher and the student through discussion and through a video presented to the students.
In Standard five it talks a lot about the delivery of the material and instruction to students. 5F states, "knows strategies to maximize student attentiveness and engagement." This lesson maximizes the attentiveness of students because it gives them to listen to the song and pull out words that resonated with them. Instead of picking a couple words as the teacher the students discuss what words stood out to them to make sure they are attentive and paying attention in the class. This allows the student to get the most out of the lesson.
In this lesson I was able to learn many things. Being a business teacher I was able to look at the perspective of a different subject and the delivery of material to students. The effectiveness of discussions within the classroom. Being able to see and contribute to a lesson like this I can see the dynamics a teacher has to have to make sure that the students are engaged and not falling behind. This lesson is fun yet it still helps the students understand the topic at hand and not straying to far off where students are confused and don't understand whats going on.
