This article talks about a study conducted through a university and is used as a tool for pre-service teachers before they get into there career. It talks about the knowledge and awareness of a teacher and how to understand the diversity within the classroom. As well as talking about the diversity in the classroom it gives an insight into the multicultural awareness within the classroom.
In standard one it talks about how "the competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student". More specifically in standard 1 is 1A, "understands the spectrum of student diversity (e.g., race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, special education, gifted, English language learners (ELL), sexual orientation, gender, gender identity) and the assets that each student brings to learning across the curriculum. This is a very important aspect to understand as a teacher. Understanding the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student is important. This artifact helps us to understand how important multicultural competence within the classroom is. It shows progress towards meeting this standard by a teacher using this artifact to understand themselves as well as their students better. Improving both yourself and student's understanding can create a classroom environment that can be improved always.
This artifact will help me be the best teacher I can be. Understanding multicultural awareness and diversity in the classroom can be one of the most important characteristics as a teacher. This artifact will help me to build my knowledge and understanding of multicultural awareness and diversity within the classroom and how to use it as a tool and to teach to these different social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences amongst my students.

This article gives insight to teachers who may struggle with teaching diverse learners in the classroom. It specifically gives three ways in which to implement a universal design for learning. The first way is to teach content in many ways. the second way is to "provide choices to sustain student engagement", and the third way is by providing accommodations for all students.
In Standard one, it states, "The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning." this is shown in this article by showing innovative ways to maximize a students learning. Many teachers tend to overlook how you can work with different students in the classroom and just focus on getting the material out to their students. Some may not even know that these students understand. By using these three ways teachers can benefit by giving the students a better way to learn and include students in the everyday learning within the classroom.
After reading this article I now understand a few more ways than what I already knew how to work with diverse students. With the amount of diversity in schools today it is important to understand that students come from many different backgrounds. By understanding this and looking through this article teachers can become to understand the ability it takes to teach students from so many different backgrounds. This article doesn't just show us tips and tricks but explains how this works within the classroom.
