Safety Trainings
Description: This artifact shows a record list of current valid trainings that I have completed. Every school year I complete about 8 hours or more of trainings on a variety of safety topics (mandated reporter, sexual harassment, trauma informed approaches, CPR). This also shows the emergency procedures folder that is kept on the class door for easy access/reference.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 9-9c which states a teacher understands emergency response procedures as required under the School Safety Drill Act, including school safety and crisis intervention protocol, initial response 8 actions (e.g., whether to stay in or evacuate a building), and first response to medical emergencies (e.g., first aid and life-saving techniques). These artifacts show the time I have spent learning about safety procedures on various topics.
What I learned: I have learned so much through all my trainings. I have learned how to see signs of abuse and what to do in response. I have learned how to do CPR and how to handle blood-borne pathogens. I also have learned the steps to take if an intruder ever enters my building.
Professional Development
Description: This artifact shows one of the many professional developments I have received. This PD was about knowing why bad behavior occurs. The presenter did a great job giving examples of the different types of behaviors and what they mean.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 9-9o which talks about teachers participating in professional development. This artifact shows how I attend PDs to become better informed and in turn can become a better teacher.
What I learned: I learned that it's important to know why the "bad behavior" is happening so that I can take the right steps in resolving the problems at hand. Knowing if its attention based, or stimulation based can help in determining what can be done to stop, or reduce these behaviors.
