Diversity and inclusion to me is a very important aspect in becoming a teacher. All my future students coming from all different backgrounds and experiences will be equally included and validated in and outside of the classroom. I believe diverse classrooms are the best environments to learn and grow. Diversity teaches us to expand our minds beyond what we already know and are comfortable with, and it opens the door to acceptance. Inclusion brings us all together to learn for one another. I am committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all my students to feel equal no matter the differences that define them. Through my education, I have learned how to create a diverse learning environment. I have learned the importance of using diverse literature in the classroom so that children get to see themselves portrayed in the books we read. I have learned and acknowledge that not every child learns the same, therefore I will diversify my methods of teaching and try my best to adapt to my student’s needs. I have learned the importance of getting to know my students at a deeper level so that I can understand them better and use this connection to create lessons best fitting for all. From the tone of my voice to the vocabulary I choose to use in the classroom impacts the learning environment, and I am committed to always be conscious of this. Not only am I committed in diversity and inclusion for my own classroom, but I am committed to contribute to the school’s environment. I am dedicated in working with my coworkers to create an all-inclusive and diverse school environment where all students feel valued and welcome.
