Assessment Accommodations and Modifications
Description: This artifact above shows two different assessments. The assessment to left is a math quiz. We take math quizzes at the end of each week, and this shows how for my non readers and writers, I allow verbal answers for questions that require explanations. I will ask them the question and I will write it down for them. This allows my low students to keep up with the classes pace. The assessment to the right shows modifications to a phonics assessment. This is an assessment to assess the vowel teams -oy and -oi. For the lower students they were to write fill in both vowel teams and then circle the correct spelling for the picture. This allowed them to still be assessed on their knowledge of using the vowel teams correctly.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 7-7b which states that teachers know the legal provisions, rules, and guidelines regarding assessment and assessment accommodations for all students. The assessments above show that I know my students and know their capabilities, and I used that knowledge to make accommodations and modifications so that they are able to still show what they know. This was a quickly learned skill because I had to modify and accommodate all my assessments due to having several IEP and low students in class.
What I learned: I learned many ways I could modify and accommodate for my students. I also learned to reach out to the resource teachers for guidance for how and when I can use these accommodations/modifications.
Grade Book
Description: This artifact shows how I organize my grades. I have it organized by subject, and it includes the assignment name, date it was given, how much it was worth, what the student scored, and what number that score is on our grading scale. After the last student's name for each assignment I put a check mark and the date for the day I entered the grades into the system.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 7-7m states a teacher can maintain useful records of student performance. This artifact shows how I keep track of all the graded assignments. This becomes very useful when entering grades into the school's grading system. This also is useful in case anyone comes back and questions any assignments graded and entered into the system. I will be able to tell them the date the assignment was given, what the assignment was worth, and what the student received.
What I learned: I learned how important it is to keep concise records with dates to reference for any reason. I once made a mistake when entering grades into the grading system and when it was brought to my attention, I was able to go into written grades and get it fixed. If I had not had my written grades for backup, I may have not been able to prove and fix my mistake.
