Expectation Anchor Chart
Description: This artifact is an anchor chart that I created, and it explains what students should be doing during partner/group activities. It sets clear expectations for when we work together. This anchor chart is put up and reviewed right before starting group activities. When I see the exceptions not being followed, I stop the class and have them read the anchor chart to themselves, then they continue.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 4-4c which states the teacher understands how to help students to work cooperatively and productively. This artifact shows how I make sure to review what it looks like to work together and be productive. I know that it is important to not only display the expectations, but to frequently recall the information on the chart. This chart explains that in order to get good quality work done, we must be respectful of each other in order to be able to work together and stay on task.
What I learned: I learned that the anchor chart provides a great visual to incorporate as a class management tool. I simply tell them the students to stop and reread the chart, and they know that they have failed to follow the expectations. This then leads them to fix their behaviors and continue working with not much time wasted.
Class Environment
Description: The pictures to the left show the safe and healthy environment I have worked to promote in class. The top picture shows a few of the drawings and notes I have received from the studnets. The bottom picture shows an activity were the students wrote kind messages to a classmate. The students picked a name from a hat, and that is who they wrote to. I did this activity this way so that the class learns to see the good in every classmate, not only their close friends.
Connection: This artifact connects to Standard 4-4i which mentions creating a safe and healthy environment to maximize student learning. The artifact shows how i have accomplished in creating a safe and healthy environment where students feel seen and appreciated. The tops picture shows how the students have accepted me and feel safe and cared for around me. The bottom picture shows an activity used to create a positive community. Students learned how we can find the good in everyone and not just our closest friends.
What I learned: I learned the importance of building a class community where all students feel seen and accepted. When all students feel valued they will be more receptive and will give effort and want to learn.
