KRSC Accepting 2025 JA Applications (Closure on Oct. 10th)
2025/08/31
Dear KRSC Friends and KAS Members,
The Korean Rubin Science Collaboration (KRSC) is happy to invite applications for the Rubin JA DRH status. The KRSC has currently 55 Rubin DRH scientists (14 PI and 41 JA), based on the generous support from Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). Considering the changes with existing JAs, we expect to be able to accommodate up to about 20 (TBC) more JA scientists. The KRSC encourages all early career scientists to apply and get chances to do sciences with the Rubin Observatory early science data.

Dear KRSC Friends,
We are pleased to inform you that there will be an informal discussion session on the Korean Rubin/LSST Science Working Group. Please refer to the recent KAS circular or the following excerpt.
KRSC Management Team
####
We had a successful Korean Rubin Science Collaboration (KRSC) Workshop at KASI last February, with about 100 participants from across all institutions in Korea. Thanks for your active participation in the workshop and other related Rubin/LSST activities. Since we are expecting to see the first light and official operation of LSSTCam real soon, we think that our next step should be science activities with Rubin/LSST data. We believe every one of you has a plan or idea.
So the suggestion is to collect those ideas and work to find ways to implement them together. And to that purpose, we have a few volunteers to lead the discussion with you all. Based on the results of discussion and your inputs, we hope we can establish a 'Science Working Group (TBC)' that will be our organized platform for information exchange about all science related issues, possibly going over the boundary of your team or institution.
If you are interested and even curious, you are welcome to come and ask your questions, and share your thoughts. We will have an informal discussion at KAS meeting venue (제1발표장, Room#101) between 12:50pm and 1:50pm on April 10th 2025.
You can sign-up in advance to help us give you any last minute update such as changing of the place, etc.
Even if you don’t think you can come in person, but are still interested and want to join the discussion, please use the form to leave your opinions or questions.

KRSC Management Team is happy to announce the Korean Rubin DRH List (FY2024-) of 14 PI scientists and 35 JA scientists. We appreciate the service of the Korean Rubin DRH Proposal Review Committee that undertook the challenging responsibility of evaluating proposals based on diverse factors, including scientific merit, feasibility, broad impact, contribution to Korean in-kind programs, and more. The Committee was chaired by Prof. Myungkook James Jee and consisted of seven members from various institutions. We thank the Committee members for their service.
Please refer to the Korean Rubin DRH List page for more information.

Dear all Korean Rubin DRH Applicants,
Thank you for your proposal for the Korean Rubin DRH status. We had 61 proposals in total (PI + JA). The Korean Rubin DRH Proposal Review Committee was formed right after the application closure, and has been diligently working to meet the previously announced timeline. However, due to the busy schedule of the Committee members around the year end, and the big load of proposal review combined with the PI and JA status match, the Review Committee has decided to delay the final decision on the updated Korean Rubin DRH List to around the end of January 2024 (TBC).
Please note that the exact date of announcement is still subject to change, and to be confirmed later.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Dear KAS members,
KAS has been involved in the LSST Project of Rubin Observatory that is expected to start operation in 2025, and working to create opportunities for KAS members to do exciting research using Rubin/LSST survey data. Since the introduction of the Rubin in-kind contribution programs, KASI has faced a challenge to meet the new requirements for the Rubin Data Access Right, and to make preparations for the current and future demand for Rubin/LSST related sciences. Therefore, KASI is now inviting KAS members to newly apply for Rubin Data Right Holder (DRH) status. All the applications will be reviewed by the independent selection committee, and we expect to announce the new Korean Rubin DRH list around Dec. 2023.
KAS members are also invited to join the Korean Rubin Science Collaboration (KRSC) that will encompass a wider scope of researchers and students who are interested in any scientific topics to be enabled by the proprietary and/or public Rubin/LSST survey data. Young research scientists, students, and prospect applicants for Rubin DRH status are strongly encouraged to participate in KRSC.
We are planning to present the KRSC and Rubin DRH application/review process during the upcoming KAS meeting in Jeju island (“Introduction to Korean Rubin Science Collaboration” @2:30pm, 10/19) and to host a discussion session during the Optical Astronomy Division meeting. Please come and join us.

천문학회원분들께,
한국천문연구원은 2025년 첫 가동을 앞두고 있는 Rubin Observatory의 Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST)에 참여하고 있으며, 이를 통해 한국천문학계가 Rubin/LSST 탐사자료를 활용해 연구할 수 있도록 지원하고 있습니다.
