Hello!

Welcome to seventh grade! My name is Mrs.Smith and I will be your English language arts teacher in house 7B this year!

This is my 7th year of teaching and my fifth year at Karcher. Prior to Karcher, I taught technology at Dyer. I also coach 7th-grade girls volleyball and the JV1 girls' volleyball team at the high school. This summer I completed my master's degree from Concordia University in literacy and learning. I have a passion for all things reading and writing and I can't wait to share that with all of you!

Here's a little more about me:

I am also a Karcher Middle School, and BHS alumni! After high school, I attended the University of Wisconsin (Go Badgers!) and then started my teaching career in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin teaching 8th grade English and social studies. I always knew I wanted to come back to Burlington and teach alongside the same people who were my teachers all those years ago. I didn't know that opportunity would come so soon. In 2015, my husband and I moved back to the area and we have been here ever since.

Just Pre-Covid, we got a new addition to our family, a mini golden doodle, Winnie. She is sweet and sassy and the most loved/spoiled puppy in the world, I'm sure you will get to hear about her often this year.

My two favorite hobbies (besides reading) are eating & traveling, and the best part is they go perfectly together. I love exploring the world and eating up all the delicious foods I can find at each destination. My favorite destination thus far has been the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.

I am so excited to be your teacher this year. You are going to flourish in seventh grade and continue growing as a reader and writer :)
