To know and use engineering education research methods and solve practical problems by applying education research findings with diversity in mind. I believe that creating knowledge is to summarize interpretations of findings for others' to easily understand and make decisions about how to explain my own findings.
One of the most valuable things research produces is new knowledge.
As I continually learn about what other great minds are thinking about, I bring my perspective of things I think are valuable to create and bring to the world.
To impact engineeirng education in Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories, but to do that, I must demonstrate that new ideas and perspectives will enable students to think more openly towards whatever career they choose to pursue.
I plan to identify gaps in knowledge and make sure they do not go unspoken, especially in areas where others' interests dominate decisions in terms of funding and allocation of resources.

These experiences complement my aspiration to proficiency in this competency since they directly show that I can create knowledge for the betterment of the people impacted by engineering education.
Working with a large team to create a theory on Latinx engineering international students. The theory creation need arises from existing theories not currently able to explain the experiences of engineering international students.
This work was presented in AERA 2024 and will be turned into a Journal paper upon further analysis
ASEE Conference Summer 2022
As part of the ENE explorer's program, I am working with Dr. Jason Morphew to understand how students realize transfer when an engineering design project is integrated into a physics laboratory. We discovered that we need to implement "transfer-stimulating questions" to facilitate transfer of concepts from physics into engineering design, leaving little room to chance.
May 2020
Created a new filter feature selection method in big data analytics for the conference proceedings titled: Important Variables using Novel Thresholding Approach for Pan-Cancer Analysis
This section demonstrates what I am currently working on related to creating knowledge.

These experiences demonstrate my aspiration to proficiency by continually working on this competency.
Starting Summer 2025
This data analysis involves examining engineering graduates' pathways on and off the islands. Complexity will arize with the data collection and type of data that is provided.
Began Fall 2022 for EDCI 61800
As part of a Gender and Culture course, I used the interview data featured in several papers to understand where women develop strategies to negotiate their identity and succeed in STEM fields. I found that there is a time, age, or career stage component related to identity negotiation and interpretation of their experiences. [Not yet published, needs further work]

Started Spring 2025
This work is a continuation of Ser Marica es pa’ Machos: Agency, Activism, and Coping While Engineering.
We describe the trust-building process we went through in our collaborative autoethnography and how it is conceptualized in Spanish vs English. We are synthesizing the literature on trust, relationship building, queer worldmaking, and other things.
Fall 2023-Spring 2024
IE 659 HCI: Ubiquitous Technologies and Acculturation Grant Draft
This grant is intended to support HCI and inclusive acculturation through the use of ubiquitous technologies at the workplace. To be expanded further and submitted after graduation.
PSY 591 Diversity Science: Inclusive Acculturation Grant Draft
This grant is intended to support the creation of a measure of inclusive acculturation. To be expanded further and submitted after graduation.
Future plans that may help me achieve this goal.

These projects may or may not occur, but they help inspire me to work harder to achieve this competency. Knowledge creation will occur throughout my career and I can not predict how it will occur.
Spring 2025
I plan to explore the literature to understand wether the engineering priority of the islands is in the people that the U.S. mainland universities are hiring or in the research that is done on the islands. This idea needs further thought.
Fall 2024
I wish to describe how Puerto Rican engineering is unique within the engineering climate. This study should help get me one step closer to filling this gap.
