To put different people's thoughts, books, articles, and credible sources together while applying learning theories, philosophies, pedagogies, and new information to solve pragmatic problems in schools and society. I believe this is a way to facilitate communication about problems and existing research on a topic.
To look back and credit the work of others is invaluable to being a good researcher.
Others' work has created the person I am today, I acknowledge that my Puerto Rican LGBTQ+ triplet cisgender male intersecting identities are not a product of chance. To understand people and engineering the way I do today is thanks to other researchers and educators' careful attention to my education.
I wish to impact rural education in Puerto Rico, but to do that, I must understand different aspects of this impact. I plan to create literature reviews and make presentations touching on several topics that could relate to this impact.
To create literature reviews, to create presentations based on research, to create courses based on recent work by others, to be updated in the field, and to widen perspective to complement my own work.

These experiences complement my aspiration to proficiency in this competency since they directly show that I have the ability to put together what others say into something that I want to say.

Used literature to shape the arguments of agency, activism, and coping.
Presented at the AERA 2024 Conference and the ASEE 2024 Conference
FIE 2023 Conference: 18-21 October 2023
My contribution to this paper is regarding synthesizing the introduction, literature review, and communicating findings. We are currently in the revision and first draft submission process.
Although this does not directly relate to my dissertation work, it mainly concerns student learning and allowed me to pull from my mathematics teaching certificate experience, CAP (content, assessment, and pedagogy) course, and my human factors knowledge.
Essay in Fall 2022 for EDCI 61800
Performed a qualitative meta-synthesis for a course on Gender and Culture in Science Education.
This work is unpublished but available upon request.
ASEE Conference Summer 2022
This systematized literature review is the product of collaboration between Héctor Rodríguez-Simmonds and Kevin Kaufman-Ortiz. Both have created similar systematized literature reviews for the ENE503 course and decided to collaborate and create a more comprehensive literature review to publish in the ASEE conference proceedings held in Minneapolis, MN in 2022.
This systematized literature review part of the ENE503 Inquiry course. This literature review introduced me to think more critically about synthesizing literature to create a quality argument with past literature.
For the first essay, I created an argument that it would be possible to speak about different philosophies over the development of engineering education in the United States.
The second essay argues how important care is in for the lives of engineering students. The essay uses my personal experience where professors and university personnel demonstrated care and how that was important to my development as an engineer.
Both works linked here contain feedback, meaning I am yet to create a final version for them.
May 2020
Synthesized literature about other filter feature selection methods to publish a conference proceeding titled: Important Variables using Novel Thresholding Approach for Pan-Cancer Analysis
Fall 2020
I put together information about the impacts I wanted to create for my PhD Application. The essays are available upon request.
I also applied to several unawarded fellowships this year: NSF-GRFP, GEM Fellowship, and Ford Fellowship. I was awarded the NSF GRF in 2023 as a second-year graduate student.

I gathered information from several sources to create my personal teaching philosophy. The main source of information came from the following book in Spanish:
Miguel A. Riestra. (1970). Fundamentos Filosóficos de la Educación. Editorial Universitaria Universidad de Puerto Rico.
This section demonstrates what I am currently working on related to synthesizing knowledge.

This work is a continuation of Ser Marica es pa’ Machos: Agency, Activism, and Coping While Engineering.
We describe the trust-building process we went through in our collaborative autoethnography and how it is conceptualized in Spanish vs English. We are synthesizing the literature on trust, relationship building, queer worldmaking, and other things.
Starting Fall 2025
Will analyze the stories of a man and a woman engineering migrant using transnational migration theory. I'll synthesize literature related to other migrant stories.
Will begin to pursue IRB in the Fall.
Future activities I may pursue to achieve this goal.

These projects may or may not occur, but they help give me an aspiration to work harder to achieve this competency.
Spring 2026
I plan to explore the literature to understand wether the engineering priority of the islands is in the people that the U.S. mainland universities are hiring or in the research that is done on the islands. This idea needs further thought.
Spring 2026
This data analysis involves examining engineering graduates' pathways on and off the islands. Complexity will arise with the data collection and type of data that is provided.
Will begin to pursue Spring 2025 IRB.
