Bon Voyage Tea
Adàlee was going to a
Bon Voyage tea with two
childhood friends that
she had known since
Grade School.
Today they are meeting at
The 7 Leaves Tea Room,
to celebrate Adàlee's first
cruise. In three days she
will be departing on the
The Brevity Bell.
When she walked in and they
saw her hair, they gasped.
Emma asked, "Dee, How could
you do such a thing?"
Samantha said, "You have hair
to die for --- long, thick and
beautiful hair. Why did you
butcher your hair?"
She replied, "I want to try
something new for my trip.
I'm going for the Audrey
Hepburn look, with short
midnight black hair and
matching Beatnik clothing."
Samantha asked,
"What's a Beatnik?"
"Google it."
"Why don't you go as yourself?"
asked Emma.
"I know me, I want to be
someone different for a
change."
"Are you OK, do you want to
talk about it?" Samantha asked.
"No I will be writing about it."
Emma said, "You need a boyfriend."
"Why are you always trying to
get me a boyfriend?"
Emma said, "We don't want
you to end up like Jane Austen."
"There will be plenty of time
for a boyfriend after I publish
my first book and I will have
a better chance after the cruise."
"For a boyfriend or a book deal?"
asked Emma.
"A book deal!"
Samantha chimed in, "How is a
cruise going to help?"
"It is a WriterShip Cruise, and
I will be surrounded by people
who are writers."
There will be writers from all over
the world."
Samantha spoke in a French lilt,
"Oh là là, maybe you will
meet a suave Français auteur
who will take you on a
montgolfière ride."
"Wait, what kind of ride."
"A hot air balloon ride.
Have you forgotten your
9th grade french?"
"Sam, I have forgotten more
than I ever learnt."
"You are so funny. By the way,
did you donate your hair to
anyone?"
"Of course, I gave it to
Lots of Locks."
Emma said, "I remember being
sent to the principal's office
and she gave me a lecture."
She said, "Why can't you be
more like Adàlee?
She is quiet, respectful and is
always paying attention."
I told Miss Cooper, "I'm
like that at church, I
don't have to be like that
at school. I am not Adàlee."
Adàlee smiled.
Samantha said, "I remember
that you were always watching
and you never seemed to
participate with the rest
of us."
Adàlee replied, "Watching is
participation. I outgrew that.
Now I just observe."
The walk down memory lane
continued until all the
remembered stories
were finished.
As they left the tea room,
they all hugged and Emma
said, as she pointed her finger,
"Remember, come and see us
first, if you wanna get married."
Everyone laughed and promised
to meet again after the cruise.
