Spending the night.
Not one person returned to
their rooms, all wanting to
stay until noon.
Or at least, until the Sun
came up.
Here Comes the Sun
The Sun peeked slowly over
the horizon, climbing ever
so slightly becoming more
brightly.
The crowd cheering and
waving their hands with
gusto, shouting;
"Good Morning Sunshine,
we are here to say Hello."
The Sun receiving the flow of
salutation, held one and all
in adoration.
The announcement came.
"Breakfast is Now Open."
Slowly walking to the breakfast
hall, everyone broke out in song.
See Ya Later Sunshine.
We are ready for today.
Let us go eat some eggs.
Little green ones
if you please.
Edda meets Jack
With her breakfast plate
in hand she spotted an empty
table by the window.
Reminiscing on last nights
adventure, she was calm
and in deep thought.
Broken by a male voice asking,
"May I sit in one of these chairs?"
Edda responded, "None
are saved."
"Thank you," Jack said as he sat
down to eat.
Edda looked out the window not
ready to engage in a conversation.
Jack sat there quietly not saying a
word while eating his breakfast.
Neither talked for the whole time
and finally Edda pushed her chair
back to get up and leave.
Jack asked, "May I ask a question?"
"That depends on the question."
"I was impressed with how you
delivered your Barreta Quote."
"I beg your pardon."
"Robert Blake, the actor who
played Barreta on TV."
"I don't spend a lot of time with TV.
I am too busy writing and creating."
"During the last century, Robert
Blake was being sued and the
Plaintiff's lawyer was accusing
him of changing his story. He said,
of course it changes, I'm not some
kind of machine, I'm a human
being."
Edda responded, "Interesting.
And I thought I was making that
up. I wrote it because it had a
musical rhyming quality.
Jack said, "Do you remember the
expression, Everything that is
going to be written has already
been written."
"Not yet." said Edda as she pushed
her chair back."
"I learned that while attending the
Universidad de Buenos Aires."
Standing up Edda asked,
"What did you learn?"
"The infinite monkey theorem."
With an expressionless face Edda
said, "I am glad you learned the
deeper meaning of life while
attending University."
As she turned and walked away,
Jack said, "Excuse me."
Edda paused and turned around saying, "Yes?"
"My name is Jack Kerouac."
"That's nice."
"May I ask your name?"
"Edda."
Pausing, Jack asked, "No last
name?"
"Not needed." responded Edda as
she turned around and walked
away.
Jack looked out the window and
wondered, "Who is she really?"
He thought some more, "Is she
an actress following the rules
we were given or did she play
the part of her true self?"
