50 More
Years Please
1 minute 19 second read
their morning coffee
on the veranda of the ship's
stateroom, Tonio told Renata,
"I made a poem for us, called,
"50 more years please."
Here goes.
50 more years please
after saying I do
who on Earth knew
we'd make it last
a 50 year blast
a long term lease
for you and me
eighteen thousand days
in many exciting ways
not much went wrong,
you and I still belong
we traveled and went
never getting too bent
barrels of fine wine
blending in our time
It was never ever a bore
Let 's do many many more
"Really ? ? ?"
she asked
"Really ! ! !"
I replied
“Check with me after
the cruise," she said.
And then she smiled.
He smiled back.
They stood up and hugged.
Looking out, over the
balcony of their stateroom,
the sun was barely above
the horizon , Tonio looked
at Renata and wispered,
"I always want to be in the
sunrise of our life, not the
sunset of our lives, no matter
how long we live."
