Connection: This artifact aligns with the ninth Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and knowledge indicator 9B) "Knows laws and rules (e.g., mandatory reporting, sexual misconduct, corporal punishment) as a foundation for the fair and just treatment of all students and their families in the classroom and school;"
Importance: It is important teachers are mandated reporters because teachers are in a unique position to identify signs of abuse or neglect in their students. Teachers play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of their students.

Description: This artifact is Kasey Hayes' American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED certification.
Connection: This artifact aligns with the ninth Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and knowledge indicator 9C) " Understands emergency response procedures as required under the School Safety Drill Act [ 105 ILCS 128/1], including school safety and crisis intervention protocol, initial response actions ( e.g., first aid and life-saving techniques)
Importance: It is important for teachers to be CPR certified as they are the first responders in emergency situations within the classroom. Having the knowledge and skills in CPR certification equips teachers with the skills to provide immediate assistance in a student or colleague experiencing a medical emergency.
