Description: This artifact is an example of my early finishers camouflage competition at my Junior High School student teaching placement. The objective of this lesson was for the students to use the skills they learned in class to camouflage a butterfly into the classroom environment.
Connection: This artifact aligns with the fourth Illinois Professional Teaching Standard and the knowledge indicator 4D) " Understands factors (e.g., self- efficacy, positive social interaction) that influence motivation and engagement;" This artifact demonstrates student efficacy through the motivation and execution of behaviors necessary to produce an accurately camouflaged butterfly.
Importance: Understanding factors that influence motivation and engagement is crucial as a teacher. When you challenge a student, they tend to rise to the occasion. This is an example of the importance to challenge our students, which sparks extrinsic motivation within student performance and social environment.
