1. Teacher provides a topic to which there are multiple responses. For example, ''What will Varjak do next after leaving the Contessa's house?"
2. Provide Think Time.
3. Students independently write their responses on their own paper or whiteboard- SOLO!
4. When students are done, there are 2 ways of knowing:
They could put their thumbs up on the table to indicate they are finished/
Teacher could put a timer on board for students to see and organise their writing accordingly.
5. Students use Round Robin to share their answers.
Writing before discussions gives students the benefit of more writing, to foster more rigorous discussion, and to help them answer questions.
Time the Round Robin to increase equal participation.
Students could write in their books to evidence their learning.
Alternatively, to keep the stakes low, students could write on Whiteboards.
At the end, students could magpie ideas of their peers if they really like them.
EAL or LA students can write a word or draw instead of a full sentence.
TA or LSA or CT can support by helping LA come up with an answer before they discuss the answer with others.
Students interact with each other discussing their choices.
Teaches children to respect each other's choices.
