Teacher poses a question (short or lengthier response)
Gives think time (3-5 seconds, some cases up to 10 seconds)
Explains who goes first - use Kagan tools on your desktop or prompts such as person with longer hair, person with shorter pinky finger, fewer buttons etc. or simply chose a random number between 1 to 4
Let's say I chose 1
5. Student 1 gives a response. Children give quick acknowledgements such as 'That's a good one', 'Nice one', 'I agree with that', 'I like your thinking' . Feel free to give a copycat gambit if training them.
6. Everyone agrees and writes it down in their book or on whiteboard
7. Student 2 responds and so on
1. Children use All Write Round Robin to come up with a description of a setting. They use those sentences in their independent writing.
An excellent way to scaffold learning for lower achieving children without needing any prior preparation.
2. Ask children to think of reasons in favour of or against a character carrying out a particular action.
Having to make credible suggestions to their peers about a character helps to develop the ability to make inferences based on what has been read so far.
Continuous All Write Round Robin: students carry on until teacher calls time
Fast-working pupils can edit and improve while they write ideas down. Alternatively, they can write down extra ideas while waiting for others to catch up.
Record = to write
Round = 'going around the table' therefore the whole team
Robin = talking.
