CLASSBUILDING
and other brain breaks
and other brain breaks
A perfect brain break- children could move around and interact with others. Children can also be tagged to be 'Move and Freeze' captains for a while- everyone follows while they take the lead.
Start with a ball of yarn and pass it to a student while holding on to one end. Continue until there is a giant web! We had a discussion about how we needed teamwork to create the web. Then I told one student to let go of his piece. I asked the class what happened when that student let go. They responded that it became weaker. Then we discussed how we are stronger when we work all together.
Sing along and dance to 'My Bonnie lies over the ocean'
The song you will use is called “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” by the Beatles. The lyrics are below. The idea is to start by singing slow. The students stand in front of their chairs. Every time you make a B sound, the students have to sit down and stand right back up. The key to this is to sing the song several times and get faster and faster. It is a ton of fun and gets them sweating and laughing. You can make it mega fun by alternating sitting/standing between As and Bs. They switch positions when they hear 'Bonnie'.
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
Well my Bonnie lies over the ocean
Yeah bring back my Bonnie to me
Yeah bring back, ah bring back
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me to me
Oh bring back, oh bring back
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me
Well my Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
Yeah my Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh I said bring back my Bonnie to me
Yeah bring back, ah bring back
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me to me
Oh bring back, ah bring back
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me
