Numbered Heads Together is a structured activity to review or practice learnt material.
Students number off.
Teacher poses a question and given think time.
Students privately write down their answers.
Students stand up and "put their heads together," showing answers, discussing and teaching each other.
Students sit down when everyone knows the answer of has something to share.
Teacher calls a number. The student with that number form each team answers simultaneously, using:
Answerboard share
Finger responses
Response cards
Manipulatives
Teammates praise students who responses.
Students are in shoulder partner pairs.
2. After teacher asks a question, pairs huddle to improve the answers they have written.
3. Teacher then calls for either A or B to share their best answer with their face partner.
Variations:
Starts the same as Numbered Heads Together, but when the the teacher calls a number, the student with that number travels to a new team to share their answers.
For fun, seated students beckon for a standing student to join their teams.
So you know which table isn't getting answers right- perhaps need to check if they are working well together.
Students must try to work out the answer. If one hand is up, we don't help.
Teacher to help only if all 4 hands are up!
