HTMP1 SY 2023-24
1. What are the three most important lessons you learned in HTMP? Please address these areas and comment:
Bed making, telephone skills, and building resume, these three areas is such a big part of tourism especially when dealing with people. The first impression you give on people will stir up the conversation to a good or bad way. Leaving a good impression on people can really help the business.
Perform basic skills in hotel operations.
Telephone skills and greeting a customer. These really give off the first impression when you are talking to a customer which can lead the conversation to a good or bad way.
Describe the importance of the hospitality and tourism industry to the economy.
Hospitality and tourism is where we get our income, we depend so much on it and this is also a reason we keep places clean, so we can have more people come.
Demonstrate professionalism and career planning skills.
This class was the reason I was able to learn how to dress professionally and build my resume as well as planning. Because of this class I was able to experince what it was like to work with the real tourism industry.
2. Describe the most memorable experiences in HTMP.
Most memorable experiences in HTMP is when we all got to bond together as a class but also learn so much in this department. We all got to learn about what goes on with tourism which has such a big impact to our economy.
3. What were your happiest or proudest moments of high school?
My proudest moments in high school was when I was able to help others, I know that I have done a lot throughout high school especially when I got a job but also balancing school. I really struggled a lot but I ended up getting everything done and I'm proud to say I was helped a lot by my teachers, I was given many chances to fix my grades which I am very grateful for. Now I can look back and realize how much has changed throughout my life.
4. What were the challenges you had to overcome in high school (do include your reflections on COVID pandemic and double session at JFK campus)?
It was a big change coming back as a senior who had to go to a different school. I really miss my classes back at Sanchez but I'm grateful that we did not have to go online. This was a very weird but fun experience since JFK is a big school. We all got to experience going to a clean school which we never really got at Sanchez. And since HoSTs became such a small class due to covid it still really helped is build a big bond with each other.
5. What were your regrets in high school?
My only regret in high school is keeping my options limited. I never really had the confidence to go out and make much memories because I got used to seeing the outside world often which I won't complaim because it truly opened a view I probably would have never seen before. My biggest regrets always have big accomplishments because I came back and tried my hardest again.
6. How has high school prepared you for life (including college and career) or how has HTMP taught you life lessons ?
High school has truly helped me experience the hardships in life. The lesson I learned the most is the world isn't just gonna stop for me, I just have to keep going and hope for the best. As well as with HTMP. This class has helped me with opportunities and taught me the keys to success in life itself. I don't think I would have had the motivation to work if it wasn't for this class.
7. If you had to redo high school, how would you do it differently?
If I had the chance to redo high school I think the only thing I would do differently is focus on getting good grades but also taking care of my mental health. I always prioritized verything else instead of myself which can become very unhealthy.
8. Who was the best guest speaker in HTMP during all three years? Why?
Saying this will all my heart. Dr. B was the best guest speaker, he brought out the laughs, tears, and motivation out of his audience. He has truly left a mark every time he gave a speech, the way he just knows what he is doing to grab our attention and never leave us bored has truly said a lot about his character.
9. What was your favorite ice breaker question? Explain.
My favorite ice breaker question is "What's something you wish you could tell your parents?" because this was the question first one to ever make me cry in class, but also because I feel like everyone has unspoken things they have always wanted to say to their parents and we got to share it that day.
10. Rate your effort in HTMP3 (1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest). Explain your rating (ex. work, family, senoritis)
My effort for HTMP is a 3 and as an officer I tried to come up with ideas so the club can have fun but also earn money so we can make use of it after. Although senioritis got to me at some point I still made up what I needed to do which is a relief.
10. What advice do you have for incoming Hospitality students?
Advice I would give is to always be motivated in this class and do whatever it takes to be involved because it can start their future.
5/7/24 Paper Airplane Activity
This group activity was very fun. It gave me and my group the opportunity to communicate and decide what plane design and how much we should get. My team just did not think the plane designs through so we just decided to make our own designs which was okay and our team leader was Ayeisha. We were helping each other build the planes since we bought a lot.
Choosing what design was fun because we did not know if it would work it was a big risk to take. But taking risk was very fun because it taught us that we can just hope for the best but also think about our plans. Overall this activity was very fun. The planes that we thought wasn't going to work was the ones that ended up working.
In the eyes of a tourist 4/19/24
1. From a tourist's perspective, what do you consider are Guam's strengths and weaknesses in our tourism product? Explain, in relations to what you saw at the various scenic and historic sites, how Guam rate as a tourist destination and what areas of improvements does Guam need?
From what I saw when we went around as a class, I see that Guam has such beautiful sites. Although I believe there are too much trash and graffiti. Which I know we are able to improve that weakness of ours. But other than that Guam has always had strengths in hospitality which is very big part in tourism.
2. What was your favorite site? Why? Were there any surprises?
My favorite site overall was the War in the Pacific museum because they provided many props for us to experience and listen to what has happened. They also provided so much information for us to learn about.
3. Which were the sites you visited for the first time?
The sites I visited for the first time were Asan Bay Overlook, Adelup, Apugan, Latte Park, and War in the pacific museum.
4. Where did you present? How did you do?
I presented at the South Pacific Memorial, although we didn't get to explore the area I enjoyed learning and presenting to other students so they can learn about it too.
5. What did you enjoy most about this field trip?
What I enjoyed the most about this field trip was being able to bond with new people and learning about the new places I have never been to before.
6. What changes would you make if you were to do this again?
Some changes I would make is to only make more time so that we explore the areas more and to learn more about the history so we can give a better explanation about the site.
Classroom environment 4/23/2024
I rate my senioritis a 5/5
Throughout the year of having this class and moving to a different school for our last year it was a very big change since we had to get used to something so new. But I am glad our bond in this class did not change. We got used to talking to each other and expressing many emotions we have held. The experiences I had in this class will make me miss it a lot. I have created such a wonderful bond with people and it has taught me so much when it comes to people I am not close with. I have proudly came out of my shell this year and I have no regrets.
Ted Talk 2/29/2024
On February 29, 2024, I had the opportunity to share my story. Ted talks are to help you be more confident, have resilience, and mainly to share a story. Which everyone has dealt with something at some point in life.
My Ted talk wasn't the best in my opinion because of how I presented it. I broke down into tears which blocked everything for me. I was very disappointed in myself because I really wanted to share the struggle I had losing my father figure. I struggled a bit after my presentation since I had so much confidence but it did not work out for me. I know I could have done a lot better but this will truly help me with coming back stronger when I decide to share my story again.
Knowing everyone has a story really changed my perspective. Seeing my classmates share their story really made me think of the word resilience. They all went through something but came back stronger to share their experience.
Freshman Recruitment Feb 7, 2024
What?
On this day HosTS presented to class of 2027. We were able to once again share the hospitality program. This presentation was somewhat not planned for my group due to the other group being absent. But we were able to split parts on time and jump in whenever someone needed help.
So what?
This presentation was a success. Even though I was a little nervous, my group helped me practice on my own just so I wasn't too nervous for when it was my turn. I am glad I was able to present during freshmen recruitment once again because I have not presented in a while and it really helped me out.
Now what?
During this presentation I did okay. Although something I would do different is not stutter so much. But my friend Paula was able to whisper what I had to say when I paused time to time. And since this is our last freshmen recruitment, I am going to miss the short practices that we do.
