Session 5 Country Speech and Discussion Practice 

5-1 Making a country speech

Country Speech = ポジションペーパーの口頭バージョンのようなスピーチです。テーマは1 Committeeに絞っても良いし、４つのCommitteeトピックを全てカバーするような内容でも構いません。ポジションペーパーと違い、スピーチは、(1)比較的優しめの単語をなるだけ使って、(2) 口語（スピーチ）調で、(3) 相手にインスピレーションを与えることが重要です。

スピーチの目的は、Position Paperで示したことやその関連事項について、あなたの国の立場と提案を他国に分かりやすく伝えることです。
スピーチする場所は、Formal Meetingsで、各国必ず１分間時間が与えられます。１分を超えると「終えてください」と促されますので、かならず事前に練習をして５０秒 〜１分以内に収めるようにしてください。

なお、期間中、スピーチは1人１回ではなく、２〜３回はあります。実際に行うかどうかは別として、あらかじめ３つほど原稿を用意しておきましょう。

スピーチの基本構成は以下の通りです：

Structure:

1. Greeting (挨拶)

   • 例: "Honorable chairs, fellow delegates..."

2. Your country’s position (立場の表明)

   • 自国が問題をどう見ているかを伝えましょう。

3. Problems and reasons (問題とその理由)

   • なぜその問題が重要か、背景を簡単に説明します。

4. Solutions (解決策の提案)

   • 自国が考える解決策を1〜2点述べましょう。

5. Conclusion (まとめ・協力の呼びかけ)

   • 他国との協力の意志を示すと好印象です。

Style Tips:

• 話すスピードはゆっくり。（50 seconds to 1 min max.)

• ジェスチャーやアイコンタクトを使おう。

• 原稿を読みすぎないように。

"Honorable Chair, fellow delegates,

The Republic of Arcadia believes that pollution from tourism is a serious issue that needs urgent action. Our country is facing increased air and water pollution in tourist areas, especially in national parks.

One major problem is the lack of eco-friendly transportation and waste management systems. As a result, our natural environment and local communities are suffering.

We propose two solutions. First, we suggest promoting eco-tourism programs with strict environmental rules. Second, we recommend introducing a tourist eco-tax to fund sustainable infrastructure.

We hope to work together with other countries to protect our environment and make tourism sustainable.

Thank you."

このサンプルは、話すスピードを意識しながら練習できるように、短く、明確に作られています。自分の国の立場や提案に合わせて書き換えてみましょう。一つできたら２〜３個準備し、Google speech to textなどを使って要領を掴みながら、練習をしておこう。

Assignment for the next session

1. Continue to revise the position paper to finalize.

2. Create one or two 1-min country speech(es), input the script into Google Text to Speech, listen to the sound and practice giving a speech. (Note: Do NOT exceed 1 min.  Make it to 50 seconds to 1 min.) 

3. Record your speech practice and submit it together with your country speech script. 
   
   
   You will give a speech at the podium next week.  Be prepared!
