Oita Prefecture claims to be "Onsen-ken Oita," but it is not only hot springs that characterize the prefecture, but also a variety of resources and foodstuffs derived from the abundance of various water nurtured by the rich nature. On the other hand, floods and landslides caused by heavy rains from giant typhoons and linear rainfall belts have become a serious "water problem" in Oita in recent years, and in December 2007, an international conference "Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS)" was held to discuss global water issues among leaders of Asia-Pacific region countries. The reason for holding the annual meeting on water issues in Oita, which is blessed with abundant water, must have been the awareness that global water is a double-edged sword for humans and other living creatures. We hope that the reports and discussions on the latest research and activities related to the environment at this meeting will contribute to the further development of Limnology and the problems facing the local community.
Please join us for the Annual meeting in Oita City, the fourth largest hot spring city in Oita Prefecture in terms of both the number of hot springs and the yield of hot springs.
