The first time I thought about the term’s literacy, genre, discourse community, inquiry, and composing knowledge. Inquiry can be defined as a process of asking questions and testing and revising, which could be shown during the rough and final draft process. Community is a place with people that have shared values and purposes, In the community, I am going into they have professional standards. Composing knowledge seeks to support your conversation by having you examine your own writing and learning experiences, this is the evidence part of the writing. Literacy is defined as the ability to read and write, a simple but yet big part of literature that can be improved in every writing piece, and Genre is the topic of which you are going to be writing.
Getting to the end of this course, I’ve given many different definitions of literacy, genre, discourse community, inquiry, and composing knowledge in terms of different writing pieces. As we go into these terms, we can see a slight difference in the meanings. Community is a place with people that have shared values and purposes, my community will be a place full of people with the same goals and drive to help people during the time of bereavement. Literacy is the ability to read and write. Throughout every paper literacy skill is improving, Inquiry is a process of asking questions and testing and revising. This is done when researching a topic of choice and completing a draft to get feedback on and complete your piece with the additional feedback. Composing knowledge is used to support your conversation by examining your own learning experiences. Using prior knowledge and applying it to the newly learned knowledge to help support your conversation.
Throughout the writing projects, I have learned that these concepts are significant to the subject of English and writing papers, just having the common knowledge of these concepts can help your paper. I can use these concepts in other courses because the terms are not just subject to English. While in Science you are able to compose knowledge, use literacy, and inquiry also when it comes to the other subjects, they all have their own discourse communities After graduating, I can apply these concepts into my work field, Going into the job that would automatically be my discourse community, working with others you can compose knowledge about the job if you are working a job that includes any type of writing literacy can be used. These concepts can benefit me as a citizen and a contributing member of society because these skills will allow me to process new pieces of information and help improve problem-solving skills along with social skills. I am definitely ready to make an active contribution to my profession, I know that I am going to be able to take all of the knowledge that I have learned from the university and apply it.
While I am writing I can say use the term Inquiry while I am completing my rough draft and turning it in to get peer and professor feedback on my writing piece. Composing knowledge is shown when I am thinking back to what I already know and using my prior knowledge to support examples in the writing. Being literate can be the simple definition of Literacy, my ability to read and write is shown in all my pieces. The funeral industry will be my discourse community and I am excited to be a contribution to this profession. Overall, this course has been great, I can say this has been the best professor, and how well-organized the course materials are well-organized and easy to follow. I enjoyed my semester in this class. The course work wasn’t overbearing, and having the schedule as Mon, Wed, and Thurs, gives a good balance not only for this class but also for the other courses that I am taking this semester. There were many skills that helped me succeed throughout this course. The main skills that helped me the most while I was writing my paper are being able to organize my papers, use proper punctuation, and have sentence structure.
I can’t say there were many factors when it came to completing work in the course, I can say finding the properly cited sources was a little time-consuming but no complaints. The personal conferences were questionable to me at first but every time after the conferences I am left with great feedback and some information about the following writing piece we will be working on. The advice that I will give to other students in ENGL 1001 preparing to take ENGL 2089 is to be ready to read and get creative. The course will only be hard if you don’t put forth effort into your writing pieces.
