Spring Forward is about the moment of entering Daylight Saving Time and losing an hour of sleep. The piece features some Renaissance and Medieval compositional devices, including repeating rhythms and melodic contours, referencing isorhythmic technique used in some liturgical music. Gradually, the piece builds, fragmenting the main melodic ideas, and entering a meditative section of ascending arpeggios. A microtonal chord takes over, with a repeated rhythm gradually building until the final tutti chime.
