The topic of this course focuses on ethics and how it relates to public administration. One will learn about the grand ethical theories and how to spot them and put them into practice. In addition, students will take away the issues with immoral behavior that revolve around psychological cognitive biases and mental heuristics that serve to deter ethical thinking.
The instruction in this course relates to all public administration work in that administrators are constantly confronted with ethical issues. Thus, a student who completes this course will be equipped with the theories related to ethics and know how to implement them when possible. Indeed, this course serves as a theoretical and pragmatic course that relates to any institution.
This course is related to other MPA courses in that there are themes that they all possess. These themes include transparency in relation to administration and the importance of leadership. In addition, this course is online and has a large number of discussions with other students that assist with learning and comprehension.
The key elements of this course that were meaningful include the coverage of grand ethical theories. The focus on these theories will assist me in the future when confronted with ethical issues and moral dilemmas. In addition, this course offers instruction on how to spot out cognitive biases that serve to block ethical thinking and can ultimately cause harm if not put in check.
This artifact highlights the ethical values that I align with on a personal and professional level. In addition, the artifact describes a code of ethics that I hold as an imperative to keep myself grounded.
This artifact highlights how I was faced with an ethical dilemma and responded. The artifact demonstrates that I was able to recognize an ethical issue and describe and label it using grand ethical theories. Thus, this demonstrates a comprehension of how to recognize and solve ethical issues.
This artifact highlights the importance of being able to recognize ethical issues within our past, present, and future. By recognizing ethical issues, one can make more positive ethical decisions within one’s personal and professional life. Indeed, this artifact demonstrates my ability to translate ethical frameworks.
