The Settlers - completed 2022 -series of three.

This edition of sculptures is inspired by the Viking settlers, who ventured out across the seas to new lands with just the basics of life. Their longboat sails were made of woven wool or flax. Living in remote settlements, the repair of sails was a serious task. Without wool, yarn and needles, they couldn't sail to fish or move on. In today’s times, we craft for pleasure, in the olden times, crafting was for survival.  In the Settlers sculptures, the upright part represents the needles or bodkins, the round forms on the base are the balls of yarn. Made from earthenware clay, glazed.

Shown in the Up on The Hill exhibition inside Rottingdean Windmill - more about these artshows on the  Art Rovers page
