Wooden Plate (2022)
This performance I directed was heavily influenced by a folktale my mother shared with me about motherhood and the impacts a mother has on her child. I wanted an all-Filippino cast, to honor the story in its entirety. I chose specific chairs, and clothes that represented each generation of the characters. In the video, I incoperated narration from both my mother and I, she told the tale in Tagalog and I translated it, showing the two generations through audio.
This was a love letter to my mom yet also a hope for the better.
