In 2019, I submitted an application for a scholarship valued at $1,250, wherein candidates were required to showcase proficiency and passion in an elective that had captured their significant interest and facilitated personal growth. In this context, I presented a monologue from the play "Grace" by Michael Lewis. "Grace" intricately navigates the experiences of six exceptional individuals within the confines of a single day—a day that precipitates profound transformations in each of their lives. Through the convergence of their paths, these strangers exert a captivating and often humorous influence on one another, resulting in an exploration that is simultaneously poignant and affirming of life. This work delves into the complexities of fate and attraction, and the essence of attaining the grace inherent in meaningful, albeit transient, human connections within an urban setting.
I was given this play that included a designated monologue for my presentation. The monologue revolves around a character, a young woman, who reflects on missing her bus and delves into her inner thoughts. She contemplates the idea that perhaps missing the bus was a fortuitous event, as it opens the possibility of encountering the love of her life on the subsequent bus. The narrative delves into the theme of fate, exploring the notion that seemingly inconsequential events can lead to significant and serendipitous outcomes.
Later earned the $1,250 scholarship.
