LIGHTBEARERS
CHASE THE SUN, SERVE THE LIGHT
A Lightbearer is a felvarg who has felt the call of the Light. At it's basic, it is a form of Fel Magic that allows the user to manipulate three specific elements in specific ways. These elements are detailed below. While a felvarg will start by mastering one form of Light, one can, with time and rigorous training, learn to use all three. However each felvarg will be attuned to one type, and thus be able to use it best. It is not always the first one they learn to use either.
All Light abilities have a cost and will drain the users energy quickly if not used wisely.
Lightbearers can detect ability to touch the Light in others, though not to what degree. A felvargs Light may remain untapped for years regardless of training, or may come to them quickly and easily.
Can a felvarg use their abilities beyond any restrictions detailed in these pages? They could, however this was something unique to an evil faction of Lightbearers. As such, the limits are moral guidelines more than anything.
However any Lightbearer has the potential to answer the call of darkness.
Just as anyone, good or evil, may feel the call of the Light.
Solar light is, at it's simplest, fire. Named for the sun the early Lightbearers chased at they left Ulfrheim, Solar was one of the first elements they discovered use of.
Titans (subclass: Sunbreaker) train with Solar Light first so as to master ones emotions on the battlefield since raw emotion (anger or passion) is the gateway to unlocking Solar Light.
Arc was the second element discovered. It's said that it was harnessed by a Warlock during a wild lightning storm. Arc Light is electricity.
Hunters (subclass: Bladedancer) train with Arc Light first so as master the flow of their energies and their bodies. Arc Light is raw and wild and can increase the users natural agility and strength.
Void was discovered early in the Age of Light, and is the least well known. It's said that those who draw from the Void lose something of themselves. It is the closest any Lightbearer can get to the Darkness without touching it.
Warlocks (subclass: Voidwalker) train with Void first since they were first to discover it and the most willing to cross the lines and explore it's secrets.
Far from the shores of Ulfrheim, far beyond Jörmungandr, lies a place unheard of by Felvargs of the present. Long ago a band of felvargs left their ancestral home to seek out the Light: a mysterious power they could feel bubbling under their very skin, waiting to be let out - set free. Many who did not feel the call also followed, hoping for a new life and new adventures. They chased the sun, day after day, and eventually landed on new shores. There they found their Light - their power.
And with it? The Darkness, an evil unlike anything they had known in Ulfrheim. Their newfound power, untested and dangerous, lent them the ability to protect themselves with three base elements: Arc, Solar and Void. They became known as Lightbearers, and from them rose a faction dedicated to protecting others: the Iron Lords.
But power can corrupt, and some of these first wayfarers became drunk with their own power seeking to control those weaker than them. Humans and fellow felvargs alike, all under guise of protection from a dark evil that surrounded the land like a storm. These became known as Warlords.
This is the beginning of the Dark Ages.
With their leader Radagast, the Iron Lords stood against the Warlords, freeing the innocent from oppression, protecting them from the Darkness that surrounded them and kept them fed and healthy. Those who were rescued, human and felvarg alike, if they wished could train to protect the whole. There were a few gifted felvargs however, who felt the Light’s call and heeded it. These became New Lights and were trained; for the Warlords too had started bringing others to their twisted cause.
All the while, the fighting raged and many lives were lost on both sides. It came to a final battle, Saladin and the last remaining Iron Lords stood bravely against the Warlords. The battle was raged in a deep canyon, with both sides hoping to bury the other. In the end, the Iron Lords were victorious, but the cost was great. Only Lord Saladin and Lady Efrideet survived the battle. With this final battle the Dark Ages came to an end.
With the Warlords vanquished the remaining Iron Lords split away. Saladin to his mountain keep, and Efrideet to wander and find a new way of using her Light for uses other than bloodshed.
Time passed and new felvargs were drawn to the Light, and with the Iron Lords as their example, formed a new faction: The Vanguard.
And thus begins the Age of Light.
With the Iron Lords and Warlords no more, three felvargs found themselves drawn to the light and, by extension, each other. Over time and training with what literature and records remained from the Dark Ages, these discovered that their Light differed from each other.
For Saint, strong and stalwart but with a gentle bearing, he found he could use Void to manifest a ward of protection.
For Osiris, a sharp witted with an obsession for his studies, he found he could use Solar to empower and heal, as well as deal devastating attacks.
For Fairwind, an athletic and silent felvarg who favored hooded cloaks, she discovered she could use Arc to imbue her blade with crackling energy.
With these new discoveries, they pooled their strengths and called themselves the Vanguard, and set out to find others who felt the call of the light as they did. The more they used their Light against the forces of the Darkness, the more they discovered and in turn, they taught others who swore to follow them and their code to protect. They called themselves Guardians. The more that joined their ranks then collected themselves into classes.
The Titans under the direction of Saint.
The Warlocks under the tutelage of Osiris.
The Rangers under the eyes of Fairwind.
Under the guidance of the Vanguard, the Guardian ranks swelled, the Light calling many descendants of those first wayfarers to answer the Darkness. Humans and Felvarg alike flocked to the safety the Vanguard provided and a great city was built. All the while the Vanguard keeps a wary eye for any Lightbearer who would answer the Darkness' call and become like the Warlords of old.
