Descriptions of jobs available:
1. STICKER-NAME [YellowPad+Pen provided]:
Before Photography: Write down line number, date, and time. Take white name sticker from graduate, if they have lost the sticker ask them for their last name. Correct Sequence is Critical. Do not “work ahead” down the row! NO CUTTING OR SWITCHING IN LINE even if graduate is not ready!
2. PUSHER [YOU PROVIDE A VERY STRONG/LOUD AND FIRM VOICE!!]:
*** For PhD Candidates (hood draped over arm) accompanied by their Advisor (wearing hood), explain to both people, “FIRST A PHOTO OF THE CANDIDATE; THEN, A SECOND PHOTO OF BOTH CANDIDATE AND ADVISOR.”
Make sure a Graduate ALWAYS is standing at the “READY” line directly in front of you, for the “NEXT!” photograph taken. Tell them firmly, “PLEASE MOVE THE 'STUFF' IN YOUR HANDS TO YOUR POCKETS!” [to hold a diploma cover]
*** Keep Graduates tightly in line. Constantly tell the Graduates firmly, “PLEASE COME TO THE LINE; STAND CLOSE TOGETHER!” The Photographer may help you by yelling “NEXT!”
*** Look down the row for Graduates who are not fully dressed. Tell the Graduate firmly, “PLEASE ZIP YOUR ROBE / FIX YOUR MORTARBOARD [hat] / ETC.—NOW!”
3. PULLER:
3A. Get the now-photographed Graduate moving!
Prepare the “NEXT!” Graduate to be photographed: watch for “stuff in hands” while handing them a padded diploma cover. Put the diploma firmly in their hands; “PLEASE HOLD THE DIPLOMA THIS WAY!”—upright and not like a “mug shot”!
3B. After the photograph “flash” you must retrieve the diploma cover. (There may be “stuff in hands” behind diploma cover!). Watch for “wandering” grads! The photographer may recall the graduate for another photograph if there's a problem.
4. TEAM CAPTAIN/FLOATER:
Coordinate with The Boss! Keep the correct String Line moving IN ORDER toward #1/Sticker-Name. Make sure that, on returning, that line moves out to (the opposite side of) the SAME String Line. Tell first Graduate in each String Line, “YOU ARE THE FRONT OF THIS LINE; ON RETURN, YOU MUST REMAIN THE FRONT OF THE LINE!”
5. TRAFFIC COP:
Before Photography: introduce yourself to the “Puller” and to the “Captain/Floater” because the THREE of you MUST make sure that graduates follow IN ORDER back in line after being photographed. Your job is to make sure the Graduate exiting the area comes toward you—NOT behind the green screen, NOR into the wrong line, etc.! Graduates must remain in sequence order behind the same person, and return to the same “String Line” (on the opposite-side of the string, now facing the opposite direction [South] for the Procession).
CORRECT SEQUENCE IS CRITICAL. Work with the Captain/Floater to keep your out-flow moving back into that String Line without interfering with in-flow from another coming in for photography.
