Natural Bridge, VA, Dec '03
I stopped in one sunny week day mid morning just out of curiosity. I walked down the path and thru the visitor center which was right next to the bridge area itself and there was not another soul in sight in any direction. So I had the whole area all to myself for at least an hour. And the fireplace in the visitor center was cold and empty and without any wood and I remember thinking how cozy a nice rip roaring fire would be instead.
It had snowed a little bit the night before and the snow was now slowly melting and huge perfectly clear drops would occasionally come floating down from the underside of the bridge and you could try to catch them on your forehead for fun.
And I did notice the initials that were carved into the rock face on the other side of the creek but let's just say 'I got nothing!' from them - no inklings of any kind whatsoever. So I guess I've been fired!
But anyway as I turned to leave and began walking back thru the visitor's center . . .
