Weekday, Chinatown, San Francisco, early '93
A woman at work - Homestake Mining Co. - announced one morning that Chinatown, which was only 2 blocks away from our office, had the most incredibly delicious produce! So during my lunch hour I went right down there and bought a nice big cantaloupe from a wonderful little fruit store. Pure joy! But after I left and as I was walking down the sidewalk back to work a Chinese American gentleman approached me from behind and loudly issued the following warning:
“Don't come BACK here white boy!”
And loudly. As loud as he could. So that the whole neighborhood could hear it. And it did! And it went right thru me. As it was meant to do. And right thru the cantaloupe too.
RIGHT THRU !!!
I never turned around to confront the disrespectful bastard. I just continued walking and when I finally came upon a trash bin I tossed in the cantaloupe. It was no longer delicious!
HEY WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?
Anyway, I want the 'Southern Poverty Law Center' to investigate this thoroughly.
