First, I added a base material to the model in hopes of getting a basis for the texture. I would like to find a texture that fits. In my mind, I would like to find some sort of marble texture or rock. and I would like to add a smudge/grain texture to add realism.
First I added seams for this I kept the mirror on so the seams would be mirrored. overall I think it is an alright job for the first part. there are many areas where the UV does not work but for a first attempt, I think it is alright.
Here are the seams that my model has. The areas that need work are the curved areas. Unfortunately, the model is quite complex and the model has edges in the model that are hard to understand.Â
Here is the final UV before getting rid of the mirror. Once I mirror I will re-make the UV but it will be pretty much the same. The reason I have to do this is to get rid of the mirrored texture.
Here is the material I chose. The material is rock 051 from ambientCG and can be found here: https://ambientcg.com/view?id=Rock051
And Here is the final render of the model with the texture as well as all of my thoughts.
For the final render, I am happy with how it turned out there are a few areas where you can see the texture has small inconsistencies. To say this is the first time UV unwrapped a model I did a good job. If I were to do this again I would try to find someone to help even if it was just looking at it. For a future goal, I would like to make a simpler model and texture it perfectly. I will do this for the next EEP after the small game project.
