PRODUCTION - WEEK FOUR

Monday 25th - Sunday 31th of March

For week four, I aimed to catch up on some work from the other weeks and finish up my research. This week is the first time I will take a big detour from the proposal plan due to a reformation of the roles. I will no longer be handling the communication or team mechanics as they are more multiplayer-focused.

I aimed to create some flow charts for the mechanics that I will work on to get an idea of how they will work. This will help me with future productions when I make the mechanics. I will outline the plans for the week as I have changed from the proposal. I will also work on researching videos and articles on how to improve our game using examples from similar games. Lastly, I worked on sound research looking at different game music.

Week Four!

Flowcharts - Reflection:

For the flowcharts, I am happy with the amount of mechanics I managed to get a flow chart for. I got one for all the main mechanics I planned to get one for and a few more I did expect to get one for. I was able to get some effects and mechanics, giving me an insight into many areas. This will help me a ton when I make the final scripts and get them into the final scene. Furthermore, I managed to use these well to understand the mechanics better, and they will help me in the future of production. Looking back, there is not much I would change, and I did not run into any problems. I would say learning how to use the flowchart tool was not planned, but it was a great tool, so looking back I would change this.

Articles and Videos - Reflection:

For the video article research, my main goal was to find research to help improve the final game. I believe I managed to get my main goal of finding ways to improve the game's genre. This will be a help when working on the game when I move over to production, as I have a basis of information on what makes games in our genre good. Looking back, I do not think I could have got more out of it, but I believe I could have put it to more use. In the end, a lot of the information did not end up being implemented. If I could do it again, I would have tried to get more implemented in the final project.

Next, I managed to hit the aim of getting two videos as a main target, and I even got two articles as well. The articles had great data that I used to base a lot of the decisions on. I am happy with the amount of articles that I looked over and the information I got. If I were to go and do this again, I would not do much differently, but I wish I could have included more of the findings in the final project.

Sound and Music - Reflection:

For the sounds and music, I analysed the sounds in six different games, which aligned with my aim as I planned the games. I am happy that I got to use the Google forms I made, so I had a base of research to use before analysing. I believe I did a good job of researching music, but I wish I looked at more songs from the selected games. This would have ensured a great understanding of the genres and styles that show up. For the sounds, I wish I had a few more, but I am happy with the selection I found. This would have helped me get an even deeper understanding of the sounds used and what they sound like. This would have improved the final product and led to a better project overall.
