PRODUCTION - WEEK TWO

Monday 11th - Sunday 17th of March

Week Two: To start week two, I aim to figure out a game cost. For this, I will look into a wide verity of games in similar genres as our game. This will help get a realistic game cost, which is my aim. Start breaking down and finish my Google forms. I left this to week two, and I will do this towards the end to ensure I get enough responses on the Google forms. From these forms I aim to get evidence for the game mechanics I am working on, I also aim to find references to look into and discover new features to think about.

Tools - Trello:

We are starting to get a base of tasks put onto the Trello board, which we will eventually begin working on. We have started adding weeks for the meetings, but have not filled most of them. I have added labels to keep order and began laying out tasks, which Mitchell and Zak have also started. There is no specific plan on them yet but we are laying a foundation.

Game Cost - Audience Research:

This week I will be going over and researching the game cost. As a team, we are splitting up the audience research over our group covering one aspect each. We did plan this a bit as seen in this weekly meeting and decided to take it on as a team. For this part I am handling the researching of the game cost, aiming to find an appropriate cost for the game.

For this, I plan to research a bunch of games covering both indie games and mainstream games. I will look at the prices and evaluate how fair they are. I am planning this here so when I move onto it, it should go smoothly. Furthermore, I aim to cover a wide selection of games aiming to at least cover six games. This allows me to get three from the mainstream and three from the indie selection.

I will try to compare these games to find fair prices and ensure good results. I also aim to analyse at least one game's reviews to see what the public opinion is on the price of games. One of the big aims is to understand and evaluate where the underlying price differences are in each form of game. This will ensure that my prices reflect the part they are in.

Google Forms - Research:

For the Google forms from last week, I will begin to break them down during this week. For each question, I will break down the results, going over the responses in total. I will analyse the responses, talking about the good points and bad points. Some points brought up will apply, but I will try to reason why they do not apply if that is the case.

From these, I aim to get a few resources to aid in my research efforts. I will also use them to gather inspiration for later mechanics. I hope a few questions help solidify the opinions I have now so I can be confident in the right parts. Furthermore, I will break both forms down to get a look at each aspect I am going to make for the project.

General Playlist - Research:

Another task this week was to find a general playlist going over the topic of creating a similar game to ours. Once I have found a few choices, I will evaluate them to find the optimal one to use as a guide. That makes analysing and finding one my first aim of this part of research. I will try to get at least two, so I can compare them. This allows me to achieve the aim of critically comparing the series.

Another part of this research is getting a look at what the series contains during the episodes. This is so I can check if it aligns with our idea and find out what I need to research. I will try to create a flowchart for a few of the mechanics to explain how they should function. The reason I do not plan to do them all is that some will use online features that I do not understand yet.

Week Two Research Final Look:

Here is the page containing the Google Forms research evaluation and the game cost audience research I did during week two:

Week Two - Research:

Reflection:

Tools - Reflection:

For the tools, I am happy with our usage so far, as I have been able to create and update the Trello board. I have placed my list of tasks so far and created labels to keep the board organized. My coding team members have also started using the board, proving it useful so far. I can and will add more later but for now, I am happy with it

Game Cost - Reflection:

To begin looking back at my game cost research, I first want to review my aims and analyse if I achieved my planned aims. First, I aimed to find an appropriate cost for the game. Not only do I feel I achieved this goal, but I managed to get two game cost values based on whether it would have a full game release. Next, I aimed to review a wide selection of games with at least six games reviewed in total. Again I believe I achieved this aim as I analysed seven games in total with four mainstream and three indie titles.

Next, I aimed to compare the titles in hopes of improving and forming a deep understanding of the price differences. For this, I compared two titles from the same franchise with differing prices looking at the public opinion. This showed me the direct link between quality and price. Lastly, I aimed to look at reviews which is how I conducted public opinion research.

Google Form - Reflection:

For the Google Forms aims, I believe I achieved these aims well. So far I have created a well-detailed base of options on all the aspects I plan to cover. I have found many mechanics to look into as well as many games to use as references. I will be able to use these for creating mood boards later in the week.

Another aim of this was to help solidify my ideas and rationale, which I think I achieved. I got many responses that aligned with my thoughts already. Some of them brought new things into consideration which will help me improve the game. Next time I could ask more definitive questions to help get more helpful answers.

General Playlist - Reflection:

Looking back on the general playlist, I managed to find at least two videos, as I got three in total. I analysed the three videos and even ruled out the use of the first video. I went over the contents of the two available videos, checking what parts they covered. This was in preparation to create the flow charts and to find out if the series was similar. For the first goal, I did not manage to create any flow charts this week, but I will make up for this during a later week. I did manage to find out if the videos were aligned with the ideas we have, which they are.
