Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student 6 growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Test Construction
Rationale: In doing my Test Construction project I developed a test using Google forms that consisted of 8 multiple choice questions and 2 essay questions based on the text of the chapter. My test was on chapter 12 from the book Educational Psychology by Anita Woolfolk.
Connection to IPTS Standard: My test construction meets Standard 7 because I was able to "use appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student 6 growth, and evaluating student outcomes".
Self-Evaluation: I learned that assessments give us such a great understanding on our students’ comprehension and retention of the content. Creating the chart really gave me a clear visual on where my students are. This will assist me in being able to monitor student progress. Recording data throughout the year will also help me see an increase or decrease in scoring.
Test Analysis
Rationale: The individual results were then evaluated for accuracy and graded by percentage, z score, and T score and I created an analysis of the results. The class results were sorted by mean, median, mode, range, and population standard deviation. These results were further analyzed in the document below titled Test Analysis where I discussed the scores collected from the test. I also chose 2 focus students where I further discuss their scores. Using Google forms made it very easy for me to score each test.
Connection to IPTS Standard: With the analysis I was able to "makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student".
Self-Evaluation: Thanks to the analysis, I was able to figure out patterns where students were getting incorrect answers and realize I needed to change things up to effectively teach the lesson. This will allow me to review any necessary topics as well as self-evaluating myself as an educator. Applying everything I have learned will help me become a better teacher for my students.
