Critical thinking is the ability to effectively use higher order thinking skills to plan, teach, and reflect on instructional practice while integrating and applying theories of teaching, learning, and development (Michaels et al., 2015).
As an educator, it is important to consider the needs of ALL students in the classroom in order to ensure that everyone has equitable access to the curriculum. Differentiation is an approach by which we reach all learners by offering options within our content, the learning environment, the processes we use for instruction, and the products that students create. Differentiating requires being strategic and thinking critically about the learning needs in the classroom and creating options to best support those needs. Attached is a differentiated instruction program plan I created to reach students with Asperger's. The approaches we use when we differentiate benefit ALL students.
One of the most important skills we need in today's digital world, is the ability to critically assess sources of information. When searching digital content to inform our research, opinions, and decisions, it is important that we evaluate it for quality and accuracy. As part of a team project, my colleagues and I created the attached website evaluation checklist that students can use to sort through the noise to identify reliable data sources.
