Eisegetical Incubator?
"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full."
John 15:9-11
Nick, Alex and me after engaging with whiteboard evangelism at CSUF this week! Alex is a Christian student at CSUF and is involved in evangelism with us as well as DMC 1 currently!
This week, Nick and I were back at CSUF for the beginning of the semester, and it was great! We've had such great responses and engagement with the whiteboard with new and returning students, and we're looking forward to multiplying the whiteboard next week and having two teams out at a time! We have a handful of Christian students that we've connected with and met with throughout the summer that we look forward to having join us in evangelism this year!
We weren't certain how well the whiteboard would fare with all of the action on campus in the first week, but we've had a great number of interactions - a significant amount which have shown real interest and engagement! We've talked to Christian students who have trained in apologetics but haven't really used them yet and we hope to follow up with and get involved eventually; we've talked with those who've left their Christian upbringing for agnosticism/atheism and pushed them to consider on what bases they reject Christ; we've already run into some Muslim students and had a super engaged conversation with them that we hope to continue later; as well as many others in between! Huntington Beach definitely has its perks, but I really enjoy how generally open college students are at CSUF for conversations about faith. It certainly isn't the case with everyone, but I do certainly find myself surprised by it again and again!
This week, Nick and I also met up again with *Titus to talk and then to have dinner with Nick's family, and we had a great time! Despite some of *Titus's hesitations towards claiming the title "Christian", as it often comes loaded with a plethora of negative connotations, he does seem to be open to following Jesus. It's unfortunate that there is such a divide between the connotations of Christians in America and the life we are to image which is found in Jesus. It certainly seems to cause a lot of confusion for people who are considering following Jesus, but don't want to sign up to be like the other people wearing that nametag. While it's unfortunate, it does seem to be something that we, those simply devoted to becoming like Jesus, must run up against as we show people the real Jesus found in scripture and not Jesus who's been baptized in an eisegetical incubator. With all of that said, it really seems that *Titus is on the verge of deciding to follow Jesus, and we look forward to hearing more from him next week when we meet together! Please join us in prayer for *Titus - that God would miraculously reveal Himself to *Titus this week by healing his injured back!
Thank you so much for your partnership with me in this ministry!
I pray that God would fill you with an abundant spring of living water that spills out into your daily ministry!
With love and peace,
Ivan Penrose
