Marissa began her career in Boston Public Schools where she taught Kindergarten and First grade for six years. She left Boston to pursue her master’s degree at Bank Street College of Education in NYC where she received a master’s degree in early childhood special education. Upon completing her masters, she was awarded a full scholarship to participate in the final Cohort of the Autism Annotation program at Bank Street College, receiving an additional certification in multiple to severe disabilities. After graduating she served as an adjunct professor at Bank Street College for many years. Marissa is currently a special education teacher in the NYC public schools, and in 2020 she was awarded The Big Apple teaching award. She was the first recipient of this high honor in Brooklyn’s district 23.
