Immersive Reader is a Microsoft Learning Tool embedded into the Microsoft 365 products that provides text-to-speech in format that reduces distractions and allows the user to customize based on their individual preferences.
On this toolbar, the reader can customize the size of text, font, and contrast.
These tools support the learners ability to identify different parts of speech and break down multi syllabic words.
This toolbar includes line focus, picture dictionary, and translation options.
Available in Microsoft Word by navigating to the "View" toolbar. It is available in the following platforms: iOS app, android app, browser application, and 365 desktop application.

Available in Microsoft Teams in both messages and assignments by selecting "more options," or selecting the book with speaker icon.
IR is available on mobile devices and tablets through the Office Lens application:
IR is available on Pages within Canvas through selecting the "Immersive Reader" button at the top of the page.
Text-to-speech is available in the Microsoft Edge browser by selecting: settings > more tools > "Read Aloud." It can also be accessed via the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + U. There are many natural voice options to choose from, which make listening more engaging for the reader.
Read&Write is a software program that provides tools to support reading and writing including word prediction, text-to-speech, translation, and more. Check out this Quick Reference Guide or these brief video tutorials to learn more about how the tools work.
The Issaquah School District has a limited group license to provide accounts for students who require accommodations in these areas, or who would benefit from additional supports to access their education. Free trials are available and recommended prior to requesting an account for students without these accommodations in an IEP or 504 plan. Practice Exercises for Read&Write Toolbar:
C-Pen Reader is a portable reading aid that reads scanned text aloud, or via headphones, in real time. It has an internal memory to save scanned text, audio recordings, and MP3 files. The pen also includes multiple built-in dictionaries (including the Oxford American Dictionary) to support comprehension.
The Issaquah School District has a limited number of pens available to check out through our assistive technology lending library. Complete the AT Request Form or contact AssistiveTech@issaquah.wednet.edu to request a trial.
Learning Ally is an audiobook solution that provides students who struggle to read, due to a reading deficit, equitable access to all the books they need to and want to read, including curriculum-aligned textbooks and literature, popular fiction, and more. With an extensive library of human-read audiobooks and a suite of educator tools and resources, Learning Ally helps struggling readers become engaged, independent learners. Eligibility for Learning Ally can be provided by a teacher or school professional. If you feel your child may be eligible for Learning Ally, please contact your child's English Language Arts or Classroom teacher. The Sora student reading app provides a reading experience that allows K-12 students to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from their school’s digital library collection. Available on smartphones, tablets and desktops, students can read for pleasure and complete assigned reading anytime, anywhere. Students can access the Sora app through their Clever (K-5) or Classlink (6-12) accounts.
Bookshare is an ebook library available for people with reading barriers. Qualification criteria must be met in order to access Bookshare. If your student does not already have an account and they meet the criteria, please contact your student's IEP case manager, 504 coordinator, or school counselor. Bookshare is free for qualifying students.
