- are vocabulary that make up about 75-80% of the words we use everyday
- should be a main part of AAC because it allows for most flexibility across situations
- examples include: I, WANT, HELP, OPEN, MORE, LIKE, GO, STOP, IN, YES, NO
- specific nouns, people’s names, places used in low-frequency situations
- personal vocab related to a person’s needs, interests, work, school and community
Core Vocabulary allows for people to communicate across all situations, settings and with all communication partners. Intentional teaching of Core Vocabulary in daily routines can help students learn to use Core Vocabulary for more effective communication.
