Edinburgh 2015

The Centre on Constitutional Change and the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh are proud to host a conference on the theme of 'Rethinking Territoriality. Between Independence and Interdependence' from 16–18 September 2015.

For the first time, this conference brings together three IPSA research committees (RC 14 Nationalism and Ethnicity, RC 28 Comparative Federalism and Multi-Level Governance and RC50 The Politics of Language). The conference also benefits from the participation and support of the Research Group on Plurinational Societies, Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada.

Spread over two and a half days, the conference, convened one year after Scotland’s historic independence referendum, will provide an opportunity to examine the politics of territorial, ethnic and linguistic identity, state traditions and language regimes, the dynamics of federalism and multi-level government, and relations between power and territory in the context of regional integration.

Please consult this website regularly as a conference programme will be posted soon. In the meantime take a look at:

Also please kindly note that:

  • registration closes on the 4th of September 2015.
  • IPSA RCs will be in touch with applicants with decisions on funding requests before the end of June 2015.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Edinburgh in September.
