An aging trend goes on through the years in Portugal, as a consequence of a decrease of both young and working population, and an increase of the elderly population
In the future most population and market in Portugal will be mainly the elderly. In 2017 for every 100 youths residing in Portugal there were 154 elderly (65+ years). This number is expeted to reach 307 eldery per 100 youths.

The consumption of these product is especially segmented by gender. 61% of total beer consumption is made by men. According to data 75% of men drink beer, compared to 43% of women

In terms of age the the age group of 35 to 54 years old (22% of the population in 2016) are the ones who most drink beer. This corresponded to 2,2 million of portuguese consumers.
It is in Grande Porto where you find the highest rates of consumption of beer, of 42.5%. Followed by 40.8% in Grande Lisboa. The lowest rate of drinking by region in Portugal is in Litoral Centro where there is a penetration of 33.5%.
According to data individuals in middle to upper social classes are the ones who present highest relative frequency with 47.5%, compared to 23.4% of individuals of lower social classes who drink beer habitually.
In terms of occupation, qualified workers standout with 54.9% having a habit of consuming beer, similarly to middle and senior staff with 53.7%.
