Part 1: Big Ideas By Library Type: Analysis of Presentation 1 (15 min self selected small groups)
Select the breakout room fits the library type you are studying: K-12 School, Public Children/Teens, Public Adult 1 (max 5 people), Public Adult 2 (max 5 people), Academic, Special
In your small groups, use this shared sheet below to take notes on your discussion. Designate a scribe to answer the questions on the shared sheet. You can use your own questions to guide your discussion as well as the provided question below:
Shared Sheet: Workshop 1: Resources to Study the Community - Google Sheets
How did you go about collecting the data about your community?
Any interesting cultural or demographic differences?
What differences can you determine pre pandemic and during pandemic?
What has happened during the pandemic to the digital outreach of your library?
What has happened since the pandemic?
Who seems to have been served well? Ignored?
Compare your non-using patrons. Whys...service ideas...any promising practices?
Public libraries: compare needs assessment?
Academic and school libraries: How did you identify disciplines that needed major support?
Special libraries: How do you discover the needs of your specialized patrons?
Tips for creating a great presentation to your targeted audience.
Questions or major idea you wish to share with the entire class
Designate a speaker in your group to give a summary of the big ideas you found in your specific library type when you come back to the whole group.
Part 2: Big Ideas Across Library Types (15 min random small groups)
In random groups in breakout rooms, talk about big ideas across all library types:
Using the Same Shared Sheet (Scroll Down for Part 2): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LGdIiQIv98hdcavDrj1VaEY7VqTr1ExwggO6KSc8e-c/edit?gid=1419248327#gid=1419248327
Part 3: Review/Reflect on Resources that the support the Study of the Community (15 min)
In your same, self-selected small groups by library type:
Review/Revisit Shared Tools Group Collaborative List from Workshop 1: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LGdIiQIv98hdcavDrj1VaEY7VqTr1ExwggO6KSc8e-c/edit?gid=1905547919#gid=1905547919
With your group, Edit & Discussion:
Which tools use AI/Machine Assist to support a more automated access to information about your community?
Which tools were the most useful?
Did you find any additional resources that supported your study of your community to add? Add them in your Library Type Section.
Part 4: Completing Presentation 1, What do you owe....
We would like every student to utilize Google Slides for Presentation 1.
Spotlight your library; then, compare to your type of library; finally, compare to all types of libraries
Word count on slides: under 20 words the goal. How many slides? About 12-15 slides.
Visuals; not just words
Include speaker notes under each slide: address an administrator, board, principal, etc.; not the professor
Identify the specific tools used to collect and analyze data in your speaker notes, and to include if those tools include AI/Machine Assist supports.
Send URL of Google Slide presentation through Canvas by next Tuesday. Please remember to make permission viewable for all.
Find the questionnaire at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeS_gVZEuhR8gmdmWYU_f1lOMKkKIXUloIUCO7QPJ1tWZDCAA/viewform
NOTE: Please answer the questionnaire only once. You can copy and paste the questions in a word/google document, type out your answers there, and then copy and paste the answers into the Google form all at once when you're done (if you input information and do not submit within a certain time frame, it will not save the information).
What is the state of technology in your library to extend resources and services to segments of the potential users?
Who has robust access? Who has limited access? Who is left out and why?
Are there any libraries we can find that are in great shape for equitable access? How do they do it? How could other libraries invent equitable access?
Concentrate your technology analysis on digital collections rather than the physical collection owned by the library. This will focus all of us on connections development.
Have a rough draft of your analysis ready for workshop three and for submission to Canvas one week later.
Part 1: Current Collection Map Introduction (10 Min Whole Group)
What is a collection map? What is its purpose?
What is a topic? What is not a topic?
How does one represent size and quality on an infographic?
What is the core collection? Emphasis collections?
Part 2: Small Group Practice: What is a topic? (15 min. self selected small group by library type)
Using this share sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jiQJ32XMe-lC7MBU3fnHAuRflyGHeN2gAmukzzN__u0/edit?gid=0#gid=0
With your library type in small groups, determine a relevant topic and add both physical and digital example items that support your selected collection topic.
Appoint an editor to add to your section (follow the example in red at the top)
Look at each other topics and share your ideas across libraries? Do you understand why we chunk collection into smaller parts?
Part 3: Infographic Sandbox: Practice developing an Infographic Example with your group using either Piktochart or Canva. (20 min self selected small group by library type)
